The Thoracic Surgery Clinic at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University) was established in 1992. Over the past 30 years,it has evolved into a comprehensive clinical department integrating medical care, teaching, and research with strong overall capabilities. The department serves over 11,000 outpatient visits annually, admits more than 2,500 inpatients, and performs approximately 2,000 surgeries each year. The Department of Thoracic Surgery is capable of performing nearly all thoracic surgeries, including:

•Esophageal cancer surgery with colonic interposition
•Resection of large chest wall tumors with chest wall reconstruction
•Open-window thoracostomy combined with muscle flap transfer for chest wall reconstruction in cases of emphysema
The department has consistently prioritized minimally invasive thoracic surgery as its primary focus, with a current minimally invasive surgery rate exceeding 90%. It was the first in Shenzhen to perform subxiphoid thoracic minimally invasive surgery, 3D-printed complex chest wall reconstruction, magnetic navigation-guided pulmonary nodule localization or ablation, and fluorescence thoracoscopy.
